Reckless Importing (From Facebook, Oct. 18, 2016)
Importing the division and methods of worldly politics into the church is perverse and rash for so many reasons. We must not hasten to latch onto every debate, narrative and issue the world is yelling about, then bring that into the church. Reality is, the world is more interested in the lecherous and vulgar stories and childish conflict than the truth.
What is revealed in the Bible is our message. So, moral issues and subjects addressed in the Bible for us today should be addressed with all boldness. However, it is reckless to attach those truths to a group, party or favored candidate. Truth we teach from the Bible should be identified with Jesus Christ. He is “the same, yesterday and today and forever,” (Heb. 13:8).
To take every opinion, fuss, sensational reaction and social media post and import that dialogue into the church is …
.. an intrusion
.. advancement of damaging competition
.. an evangelism and growth killer
.. a cause of needless division
.. a cause of confusion to our children
.. a destroyer of vestibule warmth
.. and a departure from the message and demeanor of God’s people
“For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice,” (Jas. 3:16).
